The Aged Care Royal Commission final report called for fundamental reform to provide greater respect, care and dignity for elderly Australians in care. Rely is an incident management system that helps aged care providers respond to the concerns of elderly residents and their families and manage mandatory reporting of serious incidents under the Serious Incidents Response Scheme.
Research from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety suggests approximately 40% of elderly Australians living in residential care have experienced emotional and physical abuse. The same research shows 60 percent of aged care staff admitted elder abuse in the past year.
The extent of substandard care in Australia’s aged care system reflects both poor quality on the part of some aged care providers and fundamental systemic flaws with the way the Australian aged care system is designed and governed. People receiving aged care deserve better. The Australian community is entitled to expect better.
